Mahadi Mohamad
Engineer. Leader. Advocate for sustainable growth.
Bridging governance, sustainability, and regional development across Malaysia and ASEAN — turning policy into real projects, investments, and outcomes.
“Sustainability is not advocacy — it is strategy. The next phase of leadership is about resilience, adaptation, and building systems that can endure.”
— Mahadi MohamadFrom Kedah's Rice Bowl
to Regional Leadership
Hi, I'm Mahadi — an engineer by training, a leader by experience, a lifelong learner by choice, and increasingly, a farmer by conviction.
I didn't learn sustainability in a classroom. I grew up with it in Kedah, Malaysia's rice bowl — where food security, climate impact, and livelihoods are deeply interconnected. That early exposure shaped a lifelong perspective: sustainability is not advocacy, it is strategy.
That reality shaped how I see the world today: we are no longer managing growth — we are managing survival.
From Engineer to Regional Leader
Over the years, I have worked across government, corporate, and regional platforms — from the Prime Minister's Office to boardrooms and ASEAN-level initiatives — focusing on one question: How do we govern effectively in an age of climate risk and systemic disruption?
Today, I operate at the intersection of governance, sustainability and regional development. My core principle centres on bridging strategy and execution — turning sustainability from policy language into real projects, investments, and outcomes.
As an Independent Non-Executive Director and sustainability strategist, I focus on helping organisations navigate transition risks, unlock green growth opportunities, and align with evolving ESG expectations — not as compliance, but as competitive advantage.
My work spans regional platforms such as the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT), engagement with development partners including the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and leadership roles within the Green Growth Asia Foundation (GGAF).
The Modern Farmer — Food Security as National Security
There is one agenda I am particularly passionate about: food security through hi-tech precision farming.
Malaysia imports a significant portion of its food. As climate change disrupts traditional agriculture, food security is no longer a rural issue. It is a national security issue, an economic issue, and a governance issue.
I believe the answer lies not in abandoning farming, but in reinventing it — through precision agriculture using drones, IoT sensors, satellite monitoring, AI-driven crop management, and controlled environment agriculture.
I am actively exploring and investing in this space. Not as a spectator, but as a practitioner — getting my hands into the soil while keeping my eyes on the data. I call myself a Modern Farmer: someone who respects the wisdom of the land and applies the intelligence of technology to honour it.
This is where I believe Malaysia's next chapter of national resilience will be written. And I want to be part of writing it.

“We are no longer managing growth — we are managing survival.”
— Mahadi MohamadWhat I'm Focused On
I am particularly interested in areas where sustainability intersects with national resilience — including food security as national security, energy transition, climate governance, crisis management, circular economy and regenerative systems.
Sustainability is no longer a parallel agenda. It is now central to how organisations compete, survive, and lead.
